Dullahan – Fomhar

Dullahan: Fomhar, the second book in the Dullahan quadrilogy by @whitepillmedia is out, this time with 16 of my illustrations and a cover.

I can finally reveal the reason I haven’t been updating the site in a while: I was working on a book! Cover plus 13 internal illustrations. It’s a historical fantasy novel called Dullahan – Samhradh by @whitepillmedia, based on Irish mythology. It’s well written, sometimes weird (in a good way) and really quite unique. You can read the first chapter for free here. I’ll be posting a couple of the internal illustrations here in the following days.

A drawing of a shiny, metallic beetle, with a purple and blue thorax, and a golden carapace. — Wanting to add some color to my traditional drawings, I dug out my old *Staedtler* watercolor pencils I’ve had since I was a kid. I drew this beetle from photo reference on watercolor paper. I did the inking using my trusty *Kuretake Bimoji* brush pens. Their carbon ink is not only very black, but also totally waterproof. Taking a break from the abstract doodling, I decided to draw a custom vintage-style Christmas postcard for my friends and family. Drawn in ProCreate on the iPad Pro. In case you were wondering, my surname (Gallo) means rooster in Italian.
